SomnoMed at the International Dental Show (IDS)
SomnoMed recently exhibited the latest release of its mandibular advancement splint (MAS) at the International Dental Show (IDS) in Cologne, Germany. Broadly recognized as the largest and most important dental trade event in the world, the IDS provided an ideal platform for SomnoMed to announce its patented device for treating snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) to the German market.
The company was represented at the show by Dr Peter Spencer, Vice President of Operations and New Business and Ashley Truitt, Vice President of New Business Development. Dr Spencer, formerly Director of the Corporate Office of Science & Technology for US healthcare conglomerate Johnson & Johnson, reported a very positive reception to the SomnoDent™ MAS, both at the show itself and in lead up meetings with representatives from the Germany Society of Dental Sleep Medicine and European Dental Sleep Medicine Academy.
“There is a growing awareness among German dentists of the efficacy of MAS appliances in the treatment of snoring and OSA. The German Society of Dental Sleep Medicine was started in 2000 for dentists who specialize in MAS appliances and who collaborate with sleep physicians in the treatment of OSA patients.Currently, the market for MAS devices is predominantly for simple snorers, however, key opinion leaders are increasingly seeing the potential benefits for MAS devices for patients with mild to moderate OSA.”
Dr Spencer also reported significant interest in the SomnoDent™ MAS device by dentists from other countries attending the show, including those from Italy, France, and Greece.
