A message from the CEO
Welcome to the
quarterly edition of SomnoMed’s e-news. I am delighted
to announce the release of SomnoMed’s quarterly e-news providing a very
effective and efficient means for the medical, and dental fraternity,
investors and SomnoMed patients to receive the latest updates about
oral sleep appliance treatments and technologies.
The quarter’s highlight was without doubt the annual conference SLEEP
2010, held this year in San Antonio, Texas. Over 650 delegates attended
the dental sleep conference of the American Academy of Dental Sleep
Medicine, AADSM and more than 5,000 delegates joined the medical sleep
conference APSS, Associated Professional Sleep Societies. All
exhibition activities were enforcing the SomnoDent MAS as a clinically
proven, patient compliant therapy solution and treatment option for
Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA). On the occasion of the American Dental
Sleep Exhibition, SomnoMed launched the product line SomnoBrux into the
North American market. SomnoBrux is designed for the treatment of a
sleep related movement disorder that is characterized by clenching or
grinding of the jaws or teeth, with up to 75 percent of the adult
population experiencing it at some point in their lives.
Our initiative “Awaken Dental Sleep Medicine within your Dental
Practice” has received an overwhelming response. Since 1st January we
are requiring our new SomnoMed Dental Network Partners to demonstrate a
base level of competency in Dental Sleep Medicine (DSM) prior to
sending us patient cases for fabrication. The pre-qualification in
combination with our educational programs of the SomnoMed Academy and
the in-practice implementation conducted by one of our practice
development consultants totalled in over 200 new qualified dental
practices worldwide. The affiliated SomnoMed Dental Network has now
grown to over 2,000 practices worldwide.
At SomnoMed we are committed to Dental Sleep Excellence providing the
dental and medical fraternity with world class oral sleep appliance
therapies and technologies.
Sincerely,
Ralf Barschow

Dr.
Peter
Collins
With over 35 years
experience as a general dentist, a successful practice in Dee Why and a
plan to focus on MAS therapy over the next 10 years-there’s a lot we
can learn from Dr Peter Collins.

Dr Peter
Collins has been practising as a general dentist for over 35 years; so
he knows a thing or two about running a successful business. Having
previously concentrated his treatments on all areas of general
dentistry bar surgery, Peter sees the dawning of a new focus for his
practice.
Gradually homing his resources into the treatment
of Sleep Disordered Breathing Patients may sound unrealistic to some,
or ingenious to others; but with OSA generally thought to be affecting
9% of women and 25% of men in Australia, there’s no denying the fact
that we are in need of SDB focused professionals to treat this serious
medical condition.

SomnoMed was
excited to be involved in the General Practitioners Conference and
Exhibition held in May at
Sydney Showground.

Our presence at the exhibition marked SomnoMed’s first outing at a
scientific meeting aimed at General Practitioners.
As OSA is a condition of growing concern amongst the medical
fraternity, information regarding treatment options for patients was of
particular interest to many of the delegates present.
